Why This Matters

These rules represent the most significant change to land-based shark fishing in New York in a generation, reshaping the gear, techniques, and preparation required to fish responsibly from the shore.

Our campaign strongly supports shark conservation and the protection of healthy fisheries. At the same time, we are requesting a transparent, science-based review of certain restrictions—particularly the prohibition on drone and alternative bait deployment—to ensure the regulations achieve their conservation goals without unnecessarily limiting safe, responsible angler access.
